Do you wear hats?
While I tend to be a baseball cap kind of girl, I WANT to be more of a hat person. I have a giant head (literally — I’m not kidding, Brett can vouch for that), so most hats are not my friends.
When I stumbled upon an intriguing article in The New York Times titled “Bridal Hats Are Making a Stylish Comeback.” it got me thinking about the history and timeless elegance of bridal hats.

A Brief History of Bridal Hats
Bridal hats have a rich history that dates back centuries. In the Victorian era, brides often wore elaborate bonnets adorned with flowers and lace. These bonnets were not just fashion statements; they symbolized purity and modesty. As fashion evolved, the early 20th century saw the rise of cloche hats, which perfectly complemented the sleek lines of wedding dresses of that time.
The mid-20th century brought a wave of pillbox hats and fascinators, popularized by icons like Jackie Kennedy. These styles added a touch of sophistication and grace to bridal ensembles. Even though bridal veils became more prominent in the latter half of the century, hats never truly disappeared. Instead, they found a niche in vintage and retro-inspired weddings.
Modern Revival
Today, some would say, we’re witnessing a resurgence of bridal hats, blending the old-world charm with contemporary flair. Modern brides are opting for stylish fedoras, chic berets, and whimsical flower crowns. These hats not only make a bold fashion statement but also add a unique personality to the wedding attire. I suspect we’ll be seeing a lot more hats in the weddings we photograph in coming months.
Bridal hats are more than just accessories; they are a reflection of individuality and style. Imagine the blend of tradition and modernity these hats bring to wedding photographs, creating timeless memories.
Hats can be a stunning addition to any wardrobe, offering a touch of elegance and individuality. And let’s not forget the charm of vintage hats on men. There’s something undeniably classic and sophisticated about a well-worn fedora or a stylish flat cap. Whether you’re a guy or a gal, hats can be a fantastic way to express your personal style.
So, what do you think? Are hats making a cool comeback, or are they a fashion faux pas?
